Brakes
« on: June 07, 2016, 12:52:51 PM »
Hi, Long time rider (67) picked up 1st BMW. It's a 1992 K100 RS. Well the very first ride did not turn out so well. Front caliper is sticking. Took it off and blocked the pistons to see what was happening. That's when the brake line let go. I had seen on the registration plate the bike had not been ridden in a year and a half so not totally unexpected. Question is about parts. Other then dealer what are my options for a source of caliper rebuild kit's and brake lines? I'm going to upgrade front lines to braided SS. I see HEL has a kit of four lines. Are they quality lines? Interested in a source in the US. I can't wait to ride this bike and hopefully take it on a 10 day trip later this summer. Still have two other bikes in the stable so not totally bummed out but want to get back on it fast. First ride ended up on the highway and after settling in looked at speedo and saw 110. I think I'm gonna like this bike.
Thanks / J

Sorry it's a 1992. I called HEL and they have a front set  (4) of lines for $200.00. Found a complete front and rear set (6)of Spiegler SS Lines for $225.00. Quality will beat price every time but not familiar with these products.

greetings sullivanjay...

those spiegler k100 abs1 lines are fine lines... thats what id getts if that was my moto... and if it really isa 92 k100 rs...

you need to verify what you have there by running your vin... cause that moto pictured has 11 hundert rs bodywork...

every question you asked will be answered by yourself by using the search function here at motobrick.com...

then do your own doo dillergence in advance of posting anymore questions...

its recommended that you find the answers to your questions... then come back and ask for validation...

if you want to know what parts fits your moto...

1st... getts the last 7 digits of your vin and put in here to see what your moto really is...

2nd... then pick your moto here...

3rd... after you figger out the exact part number put it in here to see what all motos it fits...

4th... then put your questions in here and  search it...

5th... make your post... include the part numbers you looked up... include screen prints to demonstrate you doing the minimum...

Thanks for reply JO. I had already read everything on this site dealing with brakes. Ton's of good info. I have ordered the Spiegler brake lines for the bike but still looking for rebuild kit for caliper. Plenty on Fleabay but not sure of quality.

The bike pictured is a 92 K100 RS. Already verified on a couple of VIN sites. Took a while for me to verify that. Reason being is the fairing is standard European. In the US it was a very expensive option in 1992. Around 1K. Yikes! Bike also had a Work's shock on it.
