trouble with my front brakes
« on: June 05, 2016, 04:30:52 AM »
I replaced a front tire and after which, one of my brake calipers are hanging up.  I did not touch the front brake when wheel was off.  when I replaced wheel with new tire on, the caliper makes a noise when I apply brakes and hangs up causing continual braking on front wheel.  No loss of brake fluid though.  Any ideas whats going on? Hey thats a name of a song I like, What's Going On?

If, like Marshall indicates, a brake rotor was not deformed or misaligned during the tire installation, you need to assess the condition of the caliper. One or both of the brake's piston assemblies may be worn or dirty and affecting retraction. Old brake fluid could also be influencing action of the brakes. If you haven't bled your brakes in two years or more, put that on the immediate schedule.

Here's what a complete caliper rebuild looks like, although it may not come to that.

Crack open the bleeder to see if fluid comes out under pressure without pulling on the lever.  It will tell you if the innards of the brake line are not releasing fluid pressure.
