Finally getting around to working on the brick again and need to get the fuel tank cleaned.

It had sat for about 3 years with fuel in it, I had to scrap the float, filter, and pump. I power washed as much of the gunk out as I could but there are still some deposits that I want to get rid of and get it nice and shiny in there ready for the new pump and filter I bought. Gonna have to run floatless since I can't find one but I've never ridden a bike with a fuel gauge so I don't foresee any issues in not having one.

Has anyone ever used the Por15 Motorcycle Fuel Tank Stripper & Repair Kit on their K-bikes before?

i have not... butts have putts marbles in there with some vinegar... shake shake shake... shake shake shake... shake that fuel tank...

is it just dirty or leaking too...

I'm fairly certain it is just dirty. I was told these are brass tanks? Which is mainly why I was wondering about using a product normally intended for steel tanks. But vinegar is cheaper and way easier to get so I'll try that method first!

Once I've done the vinegar shake I'll fill it with water and check for leaks then update.

if its just dirty id go a gallon cheep gas and a bottle of seafoam...

1/2 of that first... shake shake shake... shake shake shake... shake that fuel tank...

pour it out... pour in the rest... shake shake shake... shake shake shake... shake that fuel tank...

They are not brass.  They are aluminum.

So basically what I'm hearing is once I've got it cleaned out real good there's no need to add any sort of sealant? I'll try to snap picks when I get started on the project tomorrow but I didn't see anything that would worry me, just gunked up.

I'm gonna try the vinegar first since I just found a gallon of it for cheap. If that doesn't work I'll hit the gas station for the gas and seafoam.

Pics of before and after cleaning of the fuel tank. There is some pitting but otherwise I think it'll do for now.

I realize now one of the rubber bumpers between the tank wall and the fuel pump holding bracket had disintegrated and created much of the sludge I found in the tank.
