Odometer / Speedometer Repair
« on: May 21, 2016, 07:03:58 PM »
Neither one work & its busting my balls.

I've checked the sensor on the final drive with ohmsmeter, ive cleaned the sensor, i've check ohmsmeter from the connection under the seat to the pin on the back of the instrument cluster (im getting a reading). I've open the instrument cluster and used steel wool on the 3 top pins and 4 bottom pins, cleaning them with circuit cleaner, deoxit, filed them a bit and twisted them slightly to make sure they contact well. I also cleaned the inside pin connectors thoroughly. I tested the motor inside the cluster as mentioned in this website: http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/bvogel/K100/Fixing-the-speedo/k_bike_speedo_repair.htm with the ohmsmeter and everything checked out. Gears works. Everything else in the cluster works fine.

Nothing.

I'm stumped. I can't really seem to find much more repair information past this so anything relevant would be much appreciated.

I have heard of the sensor ring in the final drive coming loose and not turning with the ring gear.  One test is to remove the sensor hold a cheap soldering iron next to it, the 60 cycle ac should register as 40 mph or so on the speedo if it is working.  Not sure the exact speed, but that may help pinpoint the problem.

i tried that with a old cheap soldering iron. not sure if it has to be a specific kind or not, but i got nothing.

as everything metered from the sensor up to the pin on the back of the instrument cluster, i am almost sure the problem lies within.

im pretty sure i've narrowed down the issue to either of these two circuit boards as the juice flows all the way from the sensor to the pin behind the cluster... maybe a good Samaritan out there has a parts cluster they would be willing to spare a few parts out of?

here are the parts im looking for:
