Can I update my 86 K100 brakes?
« on: April 26, 2016, 01:56:55 PM »
Hi all,

I was hoping this question would already have been asked but if it has i couldn't find it and I'm sorry to have to ask again.

Been waiting 2 weeks for my repair kits for my front calipers from Germany. I've cancelled as my order doesn't seem to be going anywhere and I'm looking at a second hand solution. I see that the caliper changed from 1988. Would the later caliper be compatible with my bike? What about ABS? Would I be able to convert?

Thanks

The last 7 digits?
23007
But that's only 5! Maybe it should be 0023007
It's not an ABS bike, I was wondering if I could fit ABS. In fact, I don't know how ABS works. On RealOEM.com there seems to be only a small mecanisme on the right hand caliper. Is that right.

But as to my first question, I believe I can change my calipers for any year almost. And the same caliper is used on the R series. Thanks.

I think retro-fitting ABS would be a big job. In addition to the obvious components (rings on brake rotors, sensors, two large ABS pumps, mounting brackets for pumps and sensors, different footpeg plates, etc.), you'd need an ABS wiring harness so you could plug in the ABS brain. If you really want ABS, I think you'd be better off selling that bike and buying a different one with functional ABS.

But if that sort of project appeals to you, I have a complete ABS system that I removed from a 1992 K75s - would be glad to sell it all in one go. It may or may not be compatible (although I'm sure the wiring harness is NOT compatible with the 4-cylinder bikes).
