Naked Conversion to RT
« on: April 16, 2016, 01:19:50 PM »
This winter I started converting a "naked K " to a K100RT. The bike only has 17000 miles.

I was lucky to find a complete Rt fairing with all the brackets and screws.

One could not afford to make the conversion buying all the little pieces from a dealer.

In total the swap was close to 900 hundred dollars. $471.00 was for painting the tank and side covers to match the new Dolomite Grey fairing parts.

I sold all the naked K fairing parts for around $250.00.

The only issues were the horn wiring harness needed to be made longer.

Now I have two very low milage ( 22,000 and 13,000 ) K100Rt's both Dolomite Grey. One of them is for sale.

Don great looking bike, nice to see someone actually building a bike back to an original format. After all your hard work please don't sell it to someone who want's to make a café chopper scrambler. While I believe in a persons right to modify his or hers bike, do it with one that's a bit ratty in the bodywork. At the rate we are going with RT's, soon there won't be any left. My mate is going to go down that track with one of his RT's, the saving grace is it is pretty beat up in the bodywork.
Great work regards Martin.

Lovely looking bike. Well done.

I too have a preference for machinery to be returned to original format / style / running order (Yes the bike WAS a naked). On the other hand some cafe racers are impressive bikes and very appealing.

One suggestion, fork gators / covers. Obviously by going full fairing you are intending to do some touring.

My 84 K100RT has some pitting in the forks and I would like to have the front suspension just right (progressive springs, new seals, clean chrome and fluid level just right for me - too spongy at present). When you've gone to the trouble and expense you have, you don't want things to deteriorate.

Wishing you many miles of happy riding.

Regards
