Tools I Carry

I've always carried a lot of tools on the bike. Too many. Whenever I'm doing maintenance, if I use a tool that's not part of the on-board kit, I'll add it to the kit. In some ways this is nice since I know I can adjust or repair just about anything no matter where I am, a comforting feeling when I'm in the middle of nowhere a thousand miles from home. In retrospect I find that 95% of time all I need on the road is a set of hex keys and something to snip cable ties.

Today I decided to remove about half of the tools from the kit. This reduced the weight by ten pounds.

Trying to remember, I think the most major thing I've had to do on the road is plug flats and change bulbs. But I've probably got about as many tools on both my bikes.

what about spares?  I just carry plugs, clutch cable and bulbs.

thats whack...

i only carry oem tool roll plus a 11mm open end for brakes... and of course that big allen and big open end for the final drive...

why... well... why carry a spare final drive and driveshaft if you aints gotts the tools to replace them...

For spares I have fuses, crush washers, oil filter & O-ring, fuel filter, some hose clamps and the one radiator hose I have yet to replace.

All my bulbs are LED now and my plugs are Iridium XS4164. (I should carry a spare plug though.)

I'd like to know what they made radiator hoses out of. ALL mine are original and still looking good

I'm pretty sure that when I changed my radiator fan I saw some '86 date stamps on the hoses. I thought about looking into replacing them but then they still look good and don't have that mushy feeling when you squeeze them why replace them

I replaced the radiator hoses as part of the "rubber gets old" regime but i think BMW radiator hoses are made of unicorn skin. This last hose had to be sourced from Germany so I wonder if they'll be discontinued soon.

the only hose failure i have had on a motobrick is the output hose on my power bong... really wasnt a failure... just clogged shut... i sourced a new hose at the aquearium supply store...
