Not an ignition switch...
« on: April 08, 2016, 06:14:56 PM »
So.

Bike died on side of the road on the first ride after i cleaned out the ignition switch.

I pulled the dashpad back of and jumped the wires (red and grey) to see if the headlights woukd come on..
No luck. Which makes me think it isnt the ignition switch.

I jumped the starter straight to the battery and it spun the motor over and would light up the headlight but woukdnt fire the bike up because i still have no power to fuel injectors computer etc.

The second, 7.5A fuse was blown.

What next?

How's about telling us which fuse blew?  The manual says what each fuse controls.

Us trying to guess would not be useful. ..

Theres a bunch of smart asses on this forum lol

The second fuse, 7.5amps, "Standlicht" or "Side Lights" which is a running light or headlight fuse I woukd assume.

I havent had time to take the tank off yet but it could be where the switch plugs into the harness.

It kinda acts like a ground or something too. But i dont think that would make sense if i can jump the starter over to the battery.

That's "parking light" in the US of A.

Have you done the No Start #1, #2, #3 tasks at the top of the No Start page yet, Isaac?

was not being a smartass issac.  your statement was not clear.  could have been read as the second fuse to blow in some location, the second fuse from top, the second 7.5a fuse, etc.   please provide better detail or pics.

eg - "the 7.5a fuse in the parking light location blew"

Sorry guys. Speaking in jest via interwebs is often misconstrued. My "smartass" comment should be read as "yeah im a dumbass heres some better detail"

But yeah theyve all been done.
In fact every connector on the whole bike has been toothbrushed and dialectric greased.

I still have a feeling its the starter ground when the bike is at rest even though I can jump power to the starters hot terminal.

But i need to check the ignition switch further down the line. Does the ignition switch have a plug on it that plugs into the harness under the tank? I though it did but i dont remember from when i had the tank off last.

Yes, further down the line from the switch body, if that's what you mean.

So i have some resolution on this issue now..

It wasnt a dirty starter or a bag ignition switch...

The connector that connects the ignition switch to the harness under the tank was the culprit.
It had previously underwent some wuestionable modification by a previous owner and when you simply touch it it would work again.

So. Im going to put in a new connector for it. Right now its zip tied in place so that it cant move around and lose connection.
