WANTED:1987 K75 Fairing/ headlight surround
« on: March 15, 2016, 12:04:02 PM »
Looking for a fairing/headlight surround for my 1987 K 75.  Bike was dropped and it cracked.  Pic is before it was dropped.

Can you share a photo here, Jsensen? A 75C has a different setup than a Standard.

Of the four salvage sources I use none has any of the three-part assembly. MAX BMW offers some of the parts depending on what's cracked. Want to show a photo of the damage, or is it too depressing to look at?

If it is not too bad it might be possible to repair it. I don't know what you fairing is made out of but most BM bits are fibreglass. There is always somebody out there with fibreglass experience. If it is plastic, welding is always an option once you have determined the type of plastic. There are heaps of sites on the net on both these methods of repair.

There's some guy in Mexico that's advertising a full K1 fairing.  That would be interesting to fit on a K75.

You know , that K1 cafe in Mexico got me thinking.........how difficult would it be to take a K100LT, put on the K1 body and place it on ebay as an "original" K1. Sort of like a fake Picasso. Buyers check your VINs.

Powder coated rims, swingarm, different guages, a number of obvious differences.

Why bother, the cost, not even including labor, would be more than what you could sell it for.

Hmmmmm, maybe.......but since labor is subjective and usually alternative therapy to other diversions, what would a running LT cost,  plus a discount on the K1 plastics, a few cans of bottle spray, ......surely we could hoax a newbie? Come on MG, this would be a fun project! What's a clean K1 bring these days? And while we're at it......is the K1 as heavy as it looks? My bucket list has a clause requiring riding every K-bike model produced, and I haven't gotten close to a K1. So maybe I build a FK1 (Faux K1).

heck, for all the mods you'd have to make why not do something really bizarre, like putting the K! bodywork on a Sportster.  Then you could piss off the Harley and BMW crowd.

Dote not upon the departed external trappings of a K1 whose spirit and guts are now roaring happily along highways and byways in the Land of Chilaquiles. She has taken on new life as promised in the Book of Clymer.

Any photos of the damaged cowl available, Jsensen?

Those parts were available last summer from the dealer. These K bike parts are becoming harder to get OEM. Bummer. Nothing lets the wind out of your sails like seeing N/A.

That's for sure, but it looks like MAX can still get some of them. The primer-coated intermediate piece where the signal lights attach and the front cowl are still available in their K75C Instruments section.
