'88 K75S Okay, what's the deal here?!?
« on: February 20, 2016, 09:30:25 PM »
Re: that little semi-circle weep hole thing-a-ma-jig...

OK guys, throughout the course of this rebuild and others in the past, I have read time and time again that we are to ensure this passage stays open and unblocked by gasket makers and other materials of the like. Lining the combination pump up with the block indicates the surface of the combination pump completely covers it anyway.

So tell me, what the heck am I missing?

You're missing a pump casting that looks like this...

Now that's f'ing weird. Is mine an earlier version? Late version of the old style? I didn't see that coming.

I can't tell if his casting doesn't look like your image, rbm, because he's got his thumb on that casting and a third of it is out of the image. Maybe he'll return and let us know the outcome.

Pretty certain it's a clean machined surface (especially from the reaction post).  Mine is also clean machined with no pressure elief channel, and I have the same question about the purpose of the relief hole in the block.  Maybe early pumps had the relief channel, but i've never found an answer.

Good morning Gents,

Thanks for the input so far. I'm at work right now, so I can't get you an updated pic of my actual pump housing, but it does in fact have nothing that resembles a channel or a hole. I know there's a slight difference between the 75's and the 100's, but I wasn't expecting this. I've seen the one as pictured above with the upside-down "J" looking channel, the ones with one little weep hole, the ones with the two little weep holes, and now mine... a nice shiny machined surface where the holes and the channels would/should be, but aren't.

Here's a question for my own personal consumption...  That semi-circle weep hole that's in the block? Does oil go in to it, or does it come out?

All things considered, and regardless of that answer, I'm guessing I should apply the gasket maker (I've been using the Hondabond) around that semi-circle then.

I was still a little confused because the Clymer publication indicates the sealant should go on the inside of the holes that coincide with the engine block. Wouldn't this then give cause for leakage?

It goes straight through to the sump.  I've taken a wire and poked it through that hole on my engine block to clean it out.  Can't talk to the risk of leakage, but I've always observed the recommended path for sealant with never a problem.

Thanks for the followup, jay. It made your situation clearer for me.
