K Virus or mind control
« on: February 07, 2016, 06:44:44 PM »
6 weeks into owning a brick, ridden it about 5 miles and I find myself altered or infected enough to drive 1000 km [round trip] and collect a disassembled 86-87 K100 LT.  Filled the box and 3/4 of the cab of my full sized pickup with a collection of parts more than required to resurrect it  :mbird

The original intent was to have so critical spares or better parts for my 88.  In the coming weeks I will sorting, cleaning and inventorying it all but I think there is a complete LT there with only 40k miles on the clock.  Have I gone nuts ?

You are DOOOOMED to wander or ride the Earth looking for Brick parts. There is no cure until you have found them all.
HOOOO HAHAHA DOOMED I say.

When you get tired of wandering, Bill, install some NGK plug wires and you'll go straight to hell for a rest, apparently.

I have 3 motorcycles now.

My wife saw a coupon for the Harbor Freight motorcycle lift @$325 and asked me if I was gonna get one.

I told her that I was gonna wait for a month for a sale where it is advertsed @$300 (no coupon) and use a 20% off coupon.

She was happy that I could save money and I was happy she noticed me bent over/laying down when working on the bikes and thought of me...

I think I'll keep her.

Just make sure you fill the pump on that HF lift with the proper oil, as it comes almost bone dry and will fail quickly if not filled.

wow, 6 weeks of K bliss and already your eyes have strayed to another.  barely even ridden the 1st one.  I sense a jealous rage of hissy fits in the form of water pump, spline, and fuel pump failures in your future.

Kvirus often referred to as Kpox...  It gets a lot of us sooner or later.  You find yourself searching Craig's List in ever larger circles, calculating how many days it will take to bring that new one home.  Every morning it's eBAy with the morning coffee looking for deals on spares.  Suddenly some model you don't have looks really good to you and there is a really nice one only 2000 miles away...

The worst infections come to those who have a bit of experience wrenching on them.  These poor devils end up searching for basket cases to resurrect or chop into cafe or scrambler bikes.  "Honey, it only needs a couple of parts to be a fully running bike, and then I'll sell it.  Honest."

Yes, my name is jim.   I'm a brickaholic and I'm going straight to hell(I bought a set of NGK plug wires).

My name is Martin I also am a Brickaholic, but I have no room left in my garage. But  I have two rooms, that with a bit of careful brick removal, it could house quite a few Bricks. Do you think she would notice?? :dunno

Of course she'll notice!  It is a fool's errand to count on her perceptive powers to be lacking.  The better course of action is to just start the brick removal project and then, when confronted, project you best look of astonishment and say "but Honey, you said it was ok with you if I(fill in with something she has been wanting you to do).  Don't you recall?"

Then promise her that you will never start them in the house.

I could do that and I would probably get to Hell quicker ( a living Hell ). As I have just received Ministerial approval for the purchase of a new GPS, I might put the renovation on hold. And Jim what do you think you were doing purchasing NGK leads, after my warning. You have now DOOMED yourself and your poor bike to purgatory, if anymore people buy them the traffic down there is going to be Hell.
Regards Martin.

NGK leads were purchased long before your warning.  It wasn't early enough to save me, but maybe there are others here who will heed it and spend the ridiculous extra amounts for properly blessed BMW leads.

Doesn't really matter anyway, Martin, I am damned because my bricks have a number of non-BMW replacement parts.  For instance, I use Carquest oil filters and Volar brake pads, not to mention $20 fuel pumps.  Martin, my friend, I am doomed to the deepest reaches of hell where no one will ever find me.

Don't  worry Jim I will reserve you a parking spot, for I to have sinned multiple times, I have a Davies Craig fan, NGK spark plugs, and Ozzie Metal Gear brake discs and pads ( the biggest sin Ozzie made BMW parts), and other parts to numerous to mention. While I am used to the heat you might want to bring an air conditioner, I believe you can ride all year round down there. I'll bring a pack of cards in case you get sick of riding all year round.
Regards a DOOMED Martin.

Ha - this is a fun thread. Brings new meaning to Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall..

I too brought a parts bike home in my truck - which I promptly dissected and boxed up.

Try to avoid contracting the Moto Guzzi virus if at all possible. Either it is the most incurable virus of all - or I am just particularly susceptible to it.

Save me a seat by the fire.

An old farmer who frequents the same watering hole as I has confided in me that he has a late 60's Triumph Bonneville and an early 70's Norton in his barn.  He has kept them in running order for going on 25 years since his wife forbid his riding them.  Says his only hope is that he outlives her, but unfortunately, he says with resignation, she is 15 years younger than he.

Speaking of multiple disorders, DO NOT expose yourself to the Ural bug.  Too late for me,  symptoms are riding in absurd weather, grinning like an idiot and modding the crap out of the thing. Save yourselves!

That Ural looks like fun. Is the side car wheel powered? I saw one of those on a dual-sport ride recently - but they broke something on a really nasty rocky patch. Looked like they were having all kinds of fun up to that point though.
