FS: 1992 K75s w/ ABS
« on: February 05, 2016, 03:23:12 PM »
Grabbed the bike back when we lived in Texas to save it from getting parted out, with the promise to my wife that I would sell it when spring came after we moved to Michigan.

I've always wanted a BMW and had a blast getting it back on the road, but it's time to start thinking about selling it.

It's a '92 K75s with ABS, 16k miles, and well maintained splines. Currently road legal and registered. The only real issue when I bought it was that it had sat with gas in the tank for quite a while and had completely liquified the tank internals and corroded the seams of the tank. I replaced the tank with one from ebay and replaced most of the fuel lines.

Since I got it 5 months (and sub 300 miles) ago I've installed new tires, fuel pump/filter assembly, injectors, tank o-ring, Odyssey battery, air and old filters, new fluids, and replaced some of the fuel lines.

The splines are in beautiful condition and I regreased them before putting it back on the road.  Everything still runs and works beautifully, including the ABS.

There's definitely some surface corrosion on the aluminum bits and the front forks, but otherwise it's in pretty good condition.

I was thinking about $2300, but after looking through other Craigslist postings, I'm trying to figure out if that's appropriate or not.

So I guess I'm posting this up for two reasons.  1) To hope to get some input on whether that's a fair price and 2) I'm hoping someone that's really looking for this bike and specifically one with the ABS and low mileage can find it, instead of some random person on Craigslist who is just looking for any old bike that they can afford, or worse, make a profit parting it out.

I'm in Flushing, Michigan near Flint but we travel pretty frequently to Boston and Rochester, NY and I'd be willing to trailer it to somewhere along the way, provide the seller pick up the cost of the uhaul.

I tried attaching pictures, but I don't have enough forum privileges yet to post them.  Until I get to that point, I've got some progress images and a video of it running on my instagram, https://www.instagram.com/huck_it_forward/

Let me know what people think or if they know anyone who might be interested!

Thanks,
Geoff

Geoff as per the wisdom of the Laitch you need to reduce your picture size to 75 DPI. It doesn't like large images. And Laitch I still can't find anywhere to reduce mine, and am waiting for my daughter to visit to do it for me.

Ah, good call.

Try picresize.com or just google 'online image resize' and you should get some pretty straightforward options.

Let's try this now....

You look a bit young to be riding a bike that big, how do you mange to mount it. When you do sell it maybe buy a PEEWEE. :hehehe

Didn't know that picresize.com could have effect only on parts of the picture content.

Geoff,
I don't think you are out of line with that asking price. If you were in Canada and dealing Cdn $'s I would suggest my son have a look at it....for his first bike. But, alas, the loonie has had the shit kicked out of it lately and I can find one here in Ontario for $2,500 Cdn, but with higher mileage. 16K miles is peanuts and it sounds like you've done all the right things maintaining this bike. I wish you luck in finding a worthy home for your bike. Your heart is in the right place!

It's easy enough to resize pics with "paint". It comes with windows and you should already have it unless you have a Mac and they probably have something similar as part of their operating system.

There may be local differences, but you would not have any problem selling that in Southern California for that price. In fact, I think you could probably get $3,000 for it. It appears complete, other than a lower fairing.

Just realized I missed a couple replies on this thread!

I should probably note that the title of the 'brap brap' is in my name, and not in my 2yos son, ha ha.

I grabbed another picture the other day when we had a rare spell of February weather warm enough to take the bike out.

It gives you a little bit better view of the condition than the previous ones.  There's definitely a bit of rust on the front forks and the sidecovers are missing, but overall in pretty great shape.

So I guess that's the plan, then.  I'll ride until a good offer comes along.

So if there's anyone on the site that this fits their needs, feel free to send them my way!

Thanks,
Geoff

Bumping the thread, as the Craigslist posting is now up!

(Price would be more negotiable to members of this site, FYI)

I would think you should have no trouble selling once the weather gets better and more bikes hit the road.  With what you've done, a buyer could hop on that bike and run it to the West Coast tomorrow.

At 16,000 miles with an asking price of $2100 it looks like a steal to me.  If I didn't have three bricks in the garage already I would be all over it.

There are a couple replacements for the missing battery cover on eBay right now, and they look like they'll go cheap.

It's missing them both, unfortunately. Even if no one else bids on the white set, that's still $40 I promised the wife I wouldn't spend.  *wah wahhh*
