Alternatives to Windscreen Switch

While trying to diagnose and intermittent problem with the switch that operates the electric windscreen motor on my 1994 K1100Lt, it flew into pieces. The good news is my problem is no longer intermittent. The bad news is, of course, now I need a new switch. I found none on ebay--other than one that was for the models that had it on the left handlebar switch assembly. I'd prefer not to pay $60+
for a new one.
Is there an alternative to the OEM switch?

Well, you could always get the newer version for the left bar. It's literally just plug and play.

I retrofitted a K1100LT windscreen to my K100RT fairing
.
I bought a surplus automotive switch (Part Number DK6162 on this link)
for $3.00 that was designed for raising/lowering the electric windows in a car. It fit the windshield's escutcheon because those openings are Euro standard 17mm x 31mm opening size. You're looking for a switch with Single Pole Double Throw, Normally Open, Centre off and momentary contact, rated for 10A @12V or better.
Carling Contura switches
fit; they are available from
Eastern Beaver
. Carling switches are also used in the marine industry so you could look for local sources since you're in Florida (lots of boats there I hear).

I resolved the issue using a regular 3 position toggle switch. I mounted it on the part of the fairing below the gas gauge. It works fine, although I think I'd like one that automatically goes back to the center (off) position.
