Working on my 87 K100RS. Removed the fairing. Ordered mirrors from Boneyard that are OEM replacements for the base model. They mount through the holes on the brake and clutch mounts. Left side worked easy.

Right side has an issue. Screw witha spring is in the way. Removed it to look at it. Plastic plunger looks as though it limits acceleration to some degree.

Accelerator does not seem to be affected without the piece.

What is it? Is it completely necessary? What level and degree of fool would I be to run the machine without it?

HM2 it's a throttle lock, you can screw it in at a set amount of revs and hold  them. A crude cruise control, you only screw it in enough to hold the set revs. You should still be able to shut the throttle manually. Not the best of systems, I think illegal in most states in OZ. Deemed as too dangerous for motorcyclists to operate.

Thanx Martin. I managed to get it back in position. Doesnt seem to work all that well. In order to twist the thing I have to be under it with a really larger screwdriver and a flashlight. Not sure how to maintain speed while doing that anyway...

That doesn't sound right. My throttle lock is a round head, no-slot screw with a knurled edge. It's been helpful on a couple of long, open road trips. I can adjust it easily while riding; apparently Aussies can't do that without creating mayhem. :hehehe

It has a round head and a knurled edge. It also has a slot that is really eaten up. The spring in exceedingly cruddy and stiff. The plastic detent on the end is really sluggish too. Took a bit of elbow grease and a few expletives to get the thing removed. It looks like what Martin explained it to be; that seems plausible.

I'll take a pic tomorrow. I keep the bike at the GF's house a couple towns over. Won't be back over there til tomorrow.

HM2 I have seen two different types of throttle locks, the knurled slot type, and another type with a swiveling toggle. I don't think much of either type, so I removed mine, a knurled one and made my own out of aluminium angle which I mounted of the top side, with the mirror going through it. If needed I will post a picture on the weekend. And Laitch what's wrong with a bit of mayhem, you have admitted to driving a Prious.

Same as one I had, I removed it for something more glove friendly, & easier to use. Will try and post pictures later today if needed. As Laitch stated they are handy.

That's a gnarly specimen alright, 2PAC. It's baffling why somebody would ding that slot so much. It doesn't need torque to stay in position; that's why it's sprung. Well, it's not a critical part, so screw it. :hehehe

HM I have posted how to make a throttle lock  under Throttle Lock Home Made in the workshop forum. The pictures are of the prototype but it is basically the same as the one on the bike, although the one on the bike is a lot nicer, and a lot better finished. Once I had worked things with the prototype I could concentrate on the finish.

Last time I rocked, it cost me $5000.00.Had to have cartilage removed from knee. Old rockers never die they just limp a lot.

This started as a mirror thread so here's my 2-cents on mirrors. I'm replacing the mirrors on a K75S with aftermarket rectangular ones. I found the Ken Sean mirrors recommended by Johnny plus other designs on eBay. Here are some options.

Ken Sean
Emgo 8mm tap
Suzuki 8mm adaptors

Apologies to OEM purists out there.  :nono   

Now then, does anybody have experience with these non-OEM replacements on a mBrick?  Comments on product quality and performance when riding would be superb.

P.S.   Design Contest: Why did BMW put small round mirrors on a bike with a rectangular headlight, rectangular fairing and all rectangular design facets?  :dunno2:

They didn't. They put them on the naked bikes and bikini fairing bikes with round headlights.  :yes
