New brick owner in Dallas
« on: January 15, 2016, 06:54:38 PM »
Howdy!

I'm a newb in the Dallas area, and recently acquired a 91 K100RS and 91 K75S.  I originally set off looking for a K100 or K75 project bike, but came across the K100RS in great condition with low miles (4100!), so it is staying stock.  I continued looking for a project bike and came across the K75 with minor fairing damage from a shipping incident.  Both bikes came from ebay, and I'll be honest, it made me very nervous, but both transactions went extremely smoothly.  Both times I shipped the bikes using uship, and that worked out well too.

I keep a web log over at http://www.erdahl.io

I will probably be looking for some parts over the coming weeks/ months so I thought I'd introduce myself now.  Looking forward to maybe meeting up with some locals!

K75S as of 1/15/2016:

that 75s looked pretty nice before stripping.  did the fairing damage happen on its way to you?

Yes, she was decent- the damage occurred during shipment to the seller.  I think it fell over, then rubbed on the trailer floor for a while.  Seems sad, it was probably a near mint bike before the fall!

Yeah, the 100 is sooooo sweet!!  That bike has its own sad story- it was part of a collection whose owner passed away.

These Bricks are actually my first bikes- I took the MSF class this past October then looking for K bikes.  This forum was actually a big help in deciding to go for the brick over something like a CB 750.  For me the unique engine was a big factor, followed closely by how well these bikes do on long trips.

Big heavy bike for a first bike.  Start slow and be careful.

I can sense people's concern.. I've been taking things slow, respecting the bikes size and capability.  I'm not a young guy (almost 37), so I've gone through my speed demon phase, and plan to simply enjoy working on these bikes and riding in the open air.

My gloves are not insulated, so I can really only be out for an hour or so, but managed to put on about 200 miles since Christmas (both bikes arrived in December).
