Koso DB-03 or other aftermarket gauges that have gear indicator
« on: January 10, 2016, 06:55:00 AM »
Hi!

Is there any one on the web (here or other forums) that has tried getting full functionality on an aftermarket dial? (Ie almost as the stock cluster but in a smaller format)

I found the DB-03 have lights and indicators for almost everything as the stock cluster has (I think, just made a quick check).
I'm guessing there will be quite a bit of tinkering getting it to work with the stock sensors, so that's why I'm wondering if someone have tried it?

I've built circuits that convert the gear position switch on the K-bike transmission into a signal compatible with aftermarket gauges that have gear inputs.  My circuit has been tested with an aftermarket gauge sold on Ebay which includes a gear display.  Video below; watch the gear indicator.

However, the Koso line of gauges don't have gear inputs; they calculate the gear number based on engine RPM, road speed and user programming (see Section 4-12 of the Koso installation/operation manual).  As for detecting neutral gear (which you will need in any case), you have to do one of several things:

The Koso DB-03R fuel gauge is compatible with the K-bike fuel gauge if you perform the published modification to the sender.  Most of the other signals from the K-bike should work with the Koso gauge.

Aahh I love it when people share their knowledge!
Thank you very much!

But I don't really get why you would have a "guessed" gear indicator as the Koso has, it sounds unreliable

RBM, Are you still making circuit boards? I have just purchased a speedo just like you linked and I have seen the link for this (http://maru-labs.com) but I never got a reply for the e-mail and such.

Many Thanks,
Pablo
