Front brake rotor bolts K1100

My apologies if this is covered elsewhere on the forum, but I searched without success....
I want/need to remove the rotors from my front wheel (for painting). I seem to recall reading somewhere that the bolts are one-time use because they "stretch" and are supposed to be replaced each time. Is that correct? Is there something special about the OEM bolts or are there substitutes that can be used? OEMs are nearly $3 each and was wondering if I'd be able find an acceptable alternative. Any ideas on grade/type of bolts that should be used other than OEM?
Obviously these are critical parts and failure under heavy breaking would be very bad to disasterous. I want to proceed with caution and be sure not bolt up my rotors with bolts that are not up to the job. Thanks!

Justin I have replaced my rotors three times on K75s and have not replaced the bolts. I believe it is more important to inspect them and tension them correctly. I had a look in the Haynes manual and it did not say anything about replacing the bolts, but at $3.00 it's pretty cheap peace of mind.
Regards Martin.

Martin, are your rotors the 4-thru-bolt version, or the 6-bolt version (requiring 6 bolts each side for a total of 12 bolts)? The K1100 has the latter. I've never had a K75, so don't know what the configuration is.

You can reuse the screws on the 4V's, clean the threads and add loctite when remounting.

I must be confusing this issue with something else. Hard to go against the word of Inge....I'll do as you say. Thanks!

The screws is coated with threadlock from the factory, that's why one time use is advised.
And if the screws isn't allready been removed, it would be a smart move to use heat before removing.

Re: one time use, that's what it was....I just misremembermed the details! Will use heat for sure to remove. Great tip! Thanks again!

Justin sorry to confuse you I was looking at the bottom of your post, and saw K100 cafe. I have four through bolts with nuts.

Martin, confusion is understandable. I'm in the process of putting an 1100 front end on my 100. I didn't make that clear. All input is always appreciated.

New/related question:
When I applied heat to the bolts to remove the ABS ring (not needed for my mod on a non-ABS bike) I damaged the paint on my carriers. Looks terrible now. They need to be stripped entirely or repainted. Either way, separating the discs from the carriers is likely to yield the best results ( I could mask for painting but that will truly me a hassle). Can the clips and bobbins be reused? Or are those one-time use only that have to be replaced (they are otherwise in good condition)? Thoughts?

Bobbins should be reusable if they are in good condition. You will have to inspect and possibly replace any C-clips that appear distorted or weak.

Watch out when dismantling....every fourth bobbin have a small spring, which often is broken in pieces.
