New guy from Kansas
« on: December 13, 2015, 01:54:33 PM »
Thought I would join this forum. I am thinking of buying a 94 K75 from my police department when it retires next year. It's currently my assigned bike, yes even at 21 years old. I hope to learn some things or answer questions about the police bikes as needed. We might have the last K bike still in active service.

That, right there, should be a commercial for the current BMW K75.  Oh... forgot. They stopped making the most reliable motor they ever designed...

That would be cool if you could buy the bike. Sort of like years ago when police would take their old horses home after they retired from service. Will they let you keep the lights and siren so you can do escort rides? You should lead one of the "Distinguished Gentlemen's Rides" on that thing. (It's a charity ride benefitting prostate cancer research.)  https://www.gentlemansride.com/about/

I also want to know how many miles are on it.

Welcome, and I too, hope you can get it.

About the photo, the police versions are my favorite.  Would make a nice touring bike.  I would be smiling like you if I could get paid to ride one.  Your department must have a very good maintenance program.

How many miles?

Just under 34k. It's a nice bike, I do believe they will leave he lights on it if I want. If they don't I'll just grab them out of the trash can cause they won't keep them.

That's great. I imagined it would have something like 340,000 miles - not 34,000. The police bikes where I live rack up a ton of miles in a hurry. Get it for sure!

Officer, are amber rear driving light permitted in Kansas? I may be making a trip out there to get fresh gasohol.

They stopped making the most reliable motor they ever designed...
However, when they were making it, they failed to mark a target on the starter relay to facilitate efficient beating on it with the oem spark plug wrench.

Make sure they leave the crash bars on too. Those are impossible to find and expensive if you do find them.

+1 on the crash bars.  They are much better than the standard bars, and protect the tragkorbs which the standard bars don't.

Hi and  welcome, Surely its a no brainer!! In my experience of maintaining public sector vehicles its a case of no expense spared. 34K is nothing and you know how well its been maintained. BUY IT and then enjoy!

And I just noticed your username...I had a '72 351CJ that actually had the 1st release ('71) in it because it was built in '71.

Wish I'd never sold that car...the only one I've ever regreted selling.

You gotta buy it. Come on, really? 34K miles? And she looks great....and she is your service ride. It would be interesting to know what the department will sell it to you for. Now why is the mileage so low? It wouldn't have anything to do with hangin' out at doughnut shops, would it?  (just kidding...) That used to happen here....waaaaay back in the day.
