Plastic Protectorates, polishes etc

 :dunno2: Over the years I have tried various plastic surface protectorates. Amor All ,Polyglaze looked good but greasy and attracted dust.Have tried heaps of other products over the years and discarded them for various reasons, some were just plain ripoffs. I am currently using a product from a US company Surf City called Black Max. Does a good job,looks good not greasy but only lasts 1 to 2 weeks, and washes off in the rain.I am just about out, and about to buy another bottle $30.00 Aus.I was wondering what else is available is there anything better or do I stick with The Black Max.I am also using their car wash Pacific Blue and their polish Nano Glaze and Nano Seal really good ,highly recommended,but again dear in OZ $ 68.00 for the two bottle kit, and $25.00 for the wash.I am interested to hear what others use and recommend.The motorcycle is black with black tragkorbs & top box.

Are any of these available to you, Martin? I've never used anything but soap, water, and drool on my bike so I this is new to me. Consumer Reports is widely considered a product testing demigod up here.

Thanks Laitch unfortunately the two top rating products don't appear to be available in the land of OZ as usual.Will try and hunt them up, I've had my 75 along time and I am probably a bit anal about it. Although not as bad as a couple of mates who refuse to ride in the rain, or on dirt roads.I use mine all year round, rain or shine .At least I only drive a car when I have the wife along she doesn't like bikes.

Pledge furniture polish.  Cleans and rejuvenates plastics and leaves a fresh lemon scent for free.  :2thumbup:

Lexol Vinylex.

It is all I use on my BMW's.  2 and 4 wheel.

Looks like they've got Lexol in Oz. I wonder if Martin's tried it. I use Lexol on my riding jacket to restore and enhance its water repellency. The leather formula is pretty good stuff.

It's not recommended to use this product if you're trying to sell your bike.

Standard silicone spray does a pretty good job on plastic and rubber.

I use the lexol leather cleaner and the conditioner too.  Great stuff.

I can be anal, but not like Harley riders can be.

I have a friend who specializes as a motorcycle and car locksmith.

He refuses to work on Harley's...says 'those a-holes bitch if one drop of sweat gets on their bike'...

I just came back from the supermarket with a can of Pledge in my hot little hand for $5.00 Au. I haven't seen it for sale for around 20 years. I just tried it on a couple of 22Lt Top boxes that I managed to score at very reasonable prices. So far it looks like it will do a similar job to the $25.00-$30.00 273ml bottle Surf City Back Max. More money should now be available for Eclairs. :yippee:

I've used Black Max on the plastics too, and while it looks good, it doesn't seem to last. I'm more concerned about the metal. I live next to a salt water bay, and my fork tubes  are showing signs of rust and some bolts and other parts are  rusting too. Our house was damaged by Hurricane Michael and the big banana  has been neglected as I have been busy with the house.  It has been covered in the shed, but the shed garage door was ripped off and has only recently [yesterday] been replaced. There is still lots to do on the house, but I'd like to clean the slight surface rust off the fork tubes and other metal without scratching. Advice? My engine is black, and there are also small spots of oxidation on it. What to use to clean it? and what can I do to protect the metal , polish? I know that ideally it should be in a nice temperature controlled garage, but I don't have one.

You keep the moto under a cover, right? If I were confronted by those conditions, I couldn't resist using this product.

Martin has experience using LPS for corrosion prevention and has recommended it.

Yes, It's under cover, but there was a lot of salt spray on EVERYTHING from the 147mph wind. I'm lucky the shed it was in survived intact and didn't get blown away or crushed by falling trees. I found that product on Amazon and while pricey I'm going to try it. thanks

Hi. I’m using that on my cx this winter. It’s good stuff. Wash your bike first though, and don’t put it on too thick. Also, avoid the spray can version. If you can, get the bottle version and use a de mister. Also, when full, put the demister in a bowl of warm water first. It sprays better.

LPS 3 is great in places that you don't see like the centre stand and rear frame loop.  You can also fill up hollow tubes let it sit for a while then drain and store the excess for reuse. But because it forms a waxy coating which can be varied in thickness by applying more coats between drying it's not the prettiest stuff to look at. However it should form a pretty good barrier against road salt not that I've ever encountered it, and I'm extremely glad not to.

It's expensive as hell but if you get the two-fer on Amazon it lasts a long time. Been using it for 15 years and have tried other stuff but there's no substitute, IMHO.

I picked up a can of Plexus on special and it is reserved for my windscreen and now for my newly replaced instrument glass. Motorhobo what else do you use it on.
