:yes
I have used this paint to make repairs to the Cheetos K75S, one of which was on just the top of the fuel tank, another on a part of the left side fairing, blending into the original paint.  The match was BERFECT, not good, but BERFECT; not real close, but BERFECT.  Did I mention that the match was BERFECT?  It was BERFECT.
Thanks for the info, I guess there are at least two of the hundred active here.

I do have some chips probably from bumps and rubs while in storage hoping to at least cover them.  The area in the front of the belly pan has zero chips which is reflective of its low mileage and has me looking at a fender extender.

Thanks Johnny, I found one at Beemerboneyard for $10.00 less and if memory serves me right, that is where I got the one for my other K75. It only had screws, no sticky tape and I used some type of adhesive which has held for the last 40K.

As I type this I am looking at a pint of Cromax Chromabase BC.  Cost me $40.

The label says:

W9901K
Car: BMW
Code: 267
Color: Dakar Yellow
Year: 1999

I have used this paint to make repairs to the Cheetos K75S, one of which was on just the top of the fuel tank, another on a part of the left side fairing, blending both repairs into the original paint with a cheap airbrush.  The match was BEERFECT, not good, but BEERFECT; not real close, but BEERFECT.

Did I mention that the match was BEERFECT?

It was BEERFECT.

Friggin' BEERFECT.
I went to the local BMW auto dealership after finding a part number on line for some touch-up paint in Dakar Yellow 267.  They informed me that it shows only two available so I ordered one.  That was three weeks ago and they now inform me that BMW will not allow them to buy it for some reason :dunno

So after expressing my disappointment with no communication I said I would return for my refund, a return call said that Dakar Yellow 337 is available and they were going to order one.  After telling them no-so-fast, I need to do some research, they said I would not have to pay for it if it does not match.

Eventually I will remove the belly pan to have the crack repaired and need paint to match; was your Cromax Chromabase BC mixed at a bodyshop supply store based on the 267 color code?  If so, I may just hold off and wait until I find a good fiberglass shop.  Yea, I want mine BEERFECT too. :2thumbup:

When I looked up the Dakar Yellow paint codes on Phil Hawksley's site it shows the two paint codes but 267 is only associated with the K1 while 337 is for the R850R, R850GS, and others (no K75S).  I take it there is a difference in colors or they would not have given it another code, can anyone confirm this?

I can't say what the difference may be, but the paint mixed on the 267 code is close enough that I can do spot repairs with it and not have any color matching problems.  I recently did a repair around the filler on the tank, and there is absolutely no way to see the transition.

Be aware that I do my touch up with a cheap Badger 250 airbrush running on 15psi which allows me to easily fade in the repair with 5-6 mist coats.  Does a very nice job and they can be had for under $20.

Thanks Gryph.

Did you order or request at a paint supply store the paint based on the color code?

I'm still skeptical about the codes, they are named the same but have different color codes.

I went to my guys with the code I got off the interweb since there was no code sticker on the bike.  I also took a part with the paint on it.

Where I go they don't seem to have a lot of the BMW color codes.   They told me that BASF doesn't share Glasurit motorcycle formulas so the have to match existing paint for the best match.  In some cases, the BMW color is used on the cars as well, but under a different code.  Confusing, but with a sample to match, they do a pretty good job.

These guys are good.   This Spring I had to touch up the 25 year old paint job on my boat.  Since I couldn't bring a paint sample, I got a handful of color cards for Sherwin Williams interior paint and found the best match.  With a shot of clear on the card they got me a perfect match that I can't see from a foot away.  It was so good, I had a hard time finding the repair patches after the second coat of clear.

I know of a couple other paint dealers who are just as good.  If you look around I'm sure you'll find someone who can mix paint for you.

I went to the BMW car dealership to test the 337 color code touchup paint.  After putting on a side cover spot while at the counter we all decided that while close, it was not the same.

Yesterday I rode it to Morton's BMW in Fredericksburg VA to get a new Odyssey battery for the '93 K75S (it's over 8 years old) and get a couple of keys cut.  They pulled up the info on the Dakar Yellow '94 and confirmed the Exterior Trim Code of 999 - Special Paint and that there was no BMW Motorrad source but the paint guy they used would be able to match it and repair the cracked belly pan fairing.

So I will wait for the fairing repair to have the paint properly matched to the 267 color code.

In conversation with the paint guys, they explained that when matching old paint(more than 20 years old) they almost always have to adjust for the color change that results from UV exposure.  That is why they like to have a part to match.

While they may label the can with a mfr. paint code and name, it will probably be off slightly from the stuff sold premixed in paint pencils and spray cans.

Reds are notorious for being hard to match.  Heck, even from one spot on the bike to another there can be color differences.  I had problems when they did a batch of Mystic Red for me a couple years ago.  The nice thing about dealing with them was that they mixed a new batch for free.
