BIG tire problem.
« on: July 10, 2011, 03:34:11 PM »
I ride a 2004 K1200 RS. I like the Michelin Pilot Road 2.
The last two sets of rear tires were totally worn on the left side with in 2000 miles.
I can't afford buying new tire every couple of months.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and how to fix this?

Sounds like a major alignment problem.  Put the bike on the centre stand and use a piece of string to check alignment by putting string along each side of the rear tyre and take it to the front and make sure it is of equal distant each side of the front tyre.
Also check that each wheel is vertical when on the stand, you can use a spirit level to do that.
Even give your rear wheel a wobble by hand when it is on the centre stand and if it is loose there may be your problem.

Also having a R bike, I remembered that the swingarm bearings/bushings can get loose or worn. The R way to check that is to center stand the bike, have someone hold the rear brake down and then attempt to wiggle the back wheel (should work for a K as well). With the rear brake on, the only looseness that should be felt is that in the swing arm - ero, cause of the tire wear/strange handling. If there is no "wiggle" while holding the rear brake on, I would look at the final drive as my cause.
