Oil Leak, Whats this??
« on: September 30, 2015, 03:46:14 PM »
I have oil on the top of the crank cover running down the side, not much, only while the engine is running. This was first noticed after several hours of 75-80mph riding and the bike runs great. Took the right side fairing off to investigate and wonder what this is for on the front of the air box.? Oily residue around it and is directly above where the oil is on the crank cover. There is a vent hose next to it that heads off to the throttle body side of the engine. It looks like something should be on here, but isnt. ideas?

Oil found running here;

It's the oil return from the cyclonic oil separator, it should be a hose between this and a spigot
which you find at the top of the engine block, close to the cam chain cover.

Thanks Inge!  I'll get some hose and a couple of clamps tomorrow and fix the old girl. It does look like there has never been a hose on this bike with the spigot on top of the engine having the white covers on it. Anyone else have a K1100 with this hose missing? It was only after 18+ hours of sustained freeway riding on an IronButt ride that this happened.

I would guess some PO have put the white covers on, the other spigot is for fuel tank vent.
Most owners disconnects that one, as it have happened that fuel have ended up in the crankcase.
Search "the cup" which is the alternative used on euro models.
