I screwed up...big time

I ignored my low oil pressure light because I thought it was just a bad switch, ended up blowing the motor.  Lucky to be alive, as I was in an express lane when it happened, but very upset about what I have done to my bike.  How big of an undertaking will it be to put a new engine in? Where should I go to find one?  Should I even bother?  are there any guides for this type of project?  Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Sorry I can't advise re cost/availability of engine as I am in UK.Engine removal is not too difficult if you are mechanically minded.Although for a K75 this will give you an idea of what's involved

i would part out the 85 and score another one...

there is a guy in south east wisconsin that has one for sale... it needs nothing but a new home...

You can always check ebay and craigslist for a motor or a donor bike.

Motors are cheap and plentiful as they almost never go bad. I've talked to a parts supplier and he said he's got stacks of K engines and will have to scrap some sooner or later...actually he's in the Brighton, MI area...I'll message you his number

If I'm going to go through with this engine swap, would a 16V engine swap (or any other more powerful motor) be any more difficult?

To be blunt,if you want a more powerful K it would make a heap more sense to buy one and break yours for parts.Just my take on it.

+1  There's a lot of changes to the 16V engine control system that would require changing a number of peripheral parts and probably the entire engine harness.  Things like the ECU, Air Box, and exhaust, to name a few.

Without being greedy with your pricing, you could get a significant portion of the cost of a replacement bike out of the old one and have some spares left to support the new one.

2V engines ran from 85 to 89-90 in the UK and I think could be fitted without major issues.However I do know there were differences between the 85 bikes & later models.Others on the forum have much more knowledge on the 2V engines than me & will advise you better.

Here are the differences I think, but double check. Tank is different,tail and seat, something about the final drive/driveshaft, spline count I think, water pump. Thats all I know about, the rest of yous can add to. With all that being said, get a 85-89 motor for sure if you feel you need to keep that particular bike. Otherwise, get another one.

and is there a convenient spot to mount an oil pressure guage, just in case  light begins to flickerbrauten?
