Blotchy Gear Indicator LCD - Can it be fixed?!
« on: September 22, 2015, 07:15:24 PM »
I have my instrument cluster apart now to clean the contacts for my speedometer, and I was wondering while I'm in here, is there any way to fix this little LCD screen?  It works, but the big black blob just makes it hard to read and looks yucky.

Also, anyone know a good alternative to the big gasket that seals the back cover on the cluster?  I found it on Max BMW but it says no longer available!  Mine is all dried up and fell apart when I removed it.  I'm sure it wasn't sealing very well anyway given the condition it was in.

Try looking at the LCD itself to see if there is a manufacturer's part number.  It is probably available from a electronics supply house if you knew the number.

The cheapest thing on a BMW is the nut that connects the seat to the handlebars.
