Phil posted yesterday that he has gastric cancer over on the OGS. I'm wishing him well in his fight and sending him my best.

Hi, Scott,
    Thanks for the kind thoughts.  I don't know (personally) too many on this forum, so I didn't post here.  I DO plan to meet more of you personally and renew the friendships I have with frankenduck, Scott, Johnny, Micki, Milton, Gwen, and all the others who know me but whom I forgot to mention.  I DO plan to beat this shit!!!

i spoke to phil marvin last week... he got a little riding in now that his chemo pump is gone... awaiting surgery now... he will be zigging n zagging the conus again very soon...

im thinking this shirt was made for phil marvin...

i can confirm he is a wonderful kisser... a fine italian cook... and rides motobricks...

Hi, All,
    Thanks for all the support.  I can use it!  Surgery is scheduled for Friday, 21 Oct. at 8:00am at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.  They plan to do a gastrectomy (removal of the stomach and as much esophagus as is diseased), then sew or staple me back together.  I expect to be in the hospital for about 10 days and at my daughter's in Arlington, TX for a few weeks after that.  Her computer just took a dump during a power outage and I don't know when she'll get it fixed or get a new one, so I don't know when I'll be able to get on the internet when I return there from my home in El Paso.  I like the shirt.  I just sent Johnny my daughter's address.  Cards and letters are welcome.  Beware, any visitors may be subject to my spaghetti, if I feel well enough to cook it!

Brian Curry on the KBMW list posted that Phil's daughter had called him Friday evening.

He's now out of surgery and resting in the hospital.

Kick cancer in the ass Phil !

Heard from the man himself this morning. Sounds beat-up by the surgery but bouyed by what the surgeons have reported so far; pathology results won't be available for a few more days. Phil says he's been warned that the nurses will be coming by soon to get him on his feet for a walk.

So far, so good.

Hi, All,
    All the tubes, drains, etc. are out except a feeding tube.  I'll be going home (to my daughter's in Arlington, TX) on Sunday, I think.  The pathology report came out great.  Instead of a Class 3 tumor, it was a Class 1A and of the 27 lymph nodes sent to pathology, NONE showed any cancer!  As my friend, Gwen (Shoganai) said, "You didn't just dodge a bullet.  You dodged a howitzer."  I'm looking at a couple of weeks recovery, then again starting chemotherapy for another few weeks.  I'm ready to have this stuff over with!

Lymph nodes not involved is a good thing. ;D
Just had a friend (who is in his 60's and never had a colonoscopy  ::)) have 8 inches of his colon removed. 2 nodes involved and some chemo comin' but they say he's gonna be O.K.

+1.  Harriet, my late wife, died 4 years ago from complications from colon cancer.  She lost a lot of colon, but she didn't kick it.  3 1/2 years after surgery, she was gone.   Yes, if you're 50, get a colonoscopy.
