A daily drop of transmission oil out the weep hole on bellhousing
« on: September 07, 2015, 10:13:11 PM »
My K75S that I just brought back from a 27 year sleep is running great and a great companion to my 1974 R90.  But still much to do to get everything where it needs to be.  One disturbing discovery is a drop of transmission oil each day dripping from the bellhousing weep hole.  I see that I will probably be removing the transmission and replacing several seals to eliminate the drip.  My question is this:  am I risking any catastrophic damage by commuting on the bike with this leak as long as I keep checking the tranny oil in the bike and keep it topped off?  Typical commute is 40 miles per day.  If nothing catastrophic is due to happen because of this leak I would rather spend money on some EBC brake pads, etc, etc., before tearing the bike back apart.  Thanks and hope this is correct place to post such questions.

greetings...

its fitty fitty...

i rode a 94 eleven hundert motobrick for 60 thou miles with a daily drip which would be a nickle size drip hole puddle if it sat for a week... never oiled the clutch...

i rode a 96 eleven hundert motobrick that withen a week of noticing the first drip my clutch was oiled and i barely made it back to civilization...

if it was me... id keep riding it... generally first slips downshifting from 5th to 4th when whacking the throttle... do that often... if it starts slipping... better order up a clutch kit and all the other stuff...

its fitty fitty...

Yes, I have the nickel size puddle after a week but no noticeable issues with slipping clutch, or really any problems with the shifting.  Of course, riding old boxers around for 35 years has me used to clunky transmissions...so this K is like an F-14 Tomcat vs. ME262 to me.    I will keep riding and check on the board for knowledge on clutch/tranny seals replacement.  I have all ready thrown 15 hundert at this bike to get her where she is today, so what's more time and $ Lord willing.  Thanks for the advice.

classik vinyl no doubt from the 5 guitar attack.  I'll keep the board posted when I dive into the clutch/tranny.
