Best Gear for Girls?
« on: July 22, 2015, 02:17:55 PM »
I'm looking around online for safety gear for my GF, and I'm not seeing too many options, especially in leather.

Are those riding jeans really worth a shit, even if they are kevlar reinforced?

What do your 2Ups ride in?  Where do you go shopping.

Thanks!

Check out LeatherUp.com  .  They have their own brand called "Exelement" which is priced right.
I never buy leather only textiles so can't speak to that but you may find what you like.

My fiancee has a Joe Rocket textile jacket bought from a local non-BMW dealer

I love the look and feel of leather and I have a perforated Cortech Adrenaline jacket I wear daily but it's too damn hot. I really need a cooling vest

Kevlar jeans don't disintegrate when sliding across road surfaces like regular jeans do. They also don't have any armor so you take the hit full on.

I can't speak to Women's gear as the other half doesn't ride.

I know some will not agree, but Cycle Gear has a full line of riding gear for women. Everything from Casual to full leathers.

Just remember that you get what you pay for with them. Also if possible you should go to a store to get the fitting correct or risk having to return it for the next size up.
I don't know about women's gear, but men's gear seem to run on the small side.

I'm an Aerostich fan. Ridden there twice from Seattle.

Arrive early on a weekday and you'll practically have free run of the place and your own personal fitting assistant. Stay at the Munger Inn the night before http://www.mungerinn.com/wmi_reservations.html

Kevlar jeans don't disintegrate when sliding across road surfaces like regular jeans do. They also don't have any armor so you take the hit full on.

You missed that there are padded/armoured under shorts and shirts that one can and should wear with the jeans.
Still not quite the same level of protection as the best full armour ...  but is much more comfy and comfort is very much a factor on long rides.

As to the OP's question,

-In textiles, oddly enough, Joe Rocket seems to fit the ladies very well and many really like the styling.
-For Kevelar Jeans, Sliders are the best bang for the buck, imo.
-Armoured underwear? Cycle Gear or Motorcycle Superstore have a good variety to choose from.

If your preference is leather, my first recommendations are what to watch out for/ be wary of.
There are many companies that sell leather "motorcycle" jackets that are just paper thin fashion statements.

The companies that do make thicker (actually protective) leather riding gear tend to go to the extreme ends of the style spectrum.
You get to choose from Hardley cruiser zipperhell jackets or Proracer wannabee squid attire.

You might find some classic or vintage style Hein Gericke Leathers.
That would be my best suggestion. Not thrilled with some of the newer styling but usually does come with good armour.

And lastly, Whether you buy new or used, check the armour paddings rating. You will find that many have the older style pads.

When looking, make sure the pads are not jus CE approved. You want CE en1621-1 or en1621-2. En1621-2 is the newer standard. If you find an older set that you really like you can by the newer pads to improve your protection.

This is something you don't hear much about but riders should probably be buying new armour pads about as often as we buy helmets, and for the same reasons.

Hope this helps,

Their stuff is awesome from what I hear. Of course, a whole suit would cost more than my bike. :yow

I'll stick with my Firstgear and jeans 'til my lottery ticket comes in. :2thumbup:

I have a problem with companies that don't publish a mailing address. I couldn't find Motosport's address anywhere on their site.

I found a great firstgear jacket that fit her, $30 CList....  Basically a donation, I feel like I need to mail 'em some beer.

Still lookin' for pants, gloves and a helmet!

Probably going to try on things at cyclegear for pants and a helmet to see what fits her.
