Well I don't have a K1100RS, and don't use satellite navigation, but I use an automotive windshield suction cup mount for my Sharp Aquos Crystal Android smartphone on Sprint and use Google Maps

This is probably the cheapest possible option, and also quite flexible in terms of apps, bluetooth etc, and old phone in an el cheapo handlebar mount, and a 12V USB charger from ebay. K75 but that shouldn't make much difference. Drawbacks are not very glove or rain friendly.

I have a ram ball to the right of the dash.  iPhone into a usb charger plugged in to the power socket.  Problem is the usb draws power when plugged in and I want to hard wire a switched one... Anyone have a good plan for doing that?  Also, the phone is ok when there is a signal.  Not an issue with a gps.   I used to have a Garmin 2610 and I have not found a unit that I have ever been as happy with.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 40 on my K75RT.  Made a mount that wraps around the cross bar under the windshield by heating a strip of 1/8" thick Acrylic and molding it to the shape of the crossbar.  I cut the ball off of a mount and screwed it to the acrylic.

Power was hard wired into the parking light circuit.  Hacked the 12volt lighter plug to add pigtails that could connect into the bike's wiring.

Had some problems with the display popping out of the mount on the crap New York State roads I ride on.  Fixed it by gluing the mount to the display with super glue.  Tightened up the ball joint by putting some 1/4" foam in  the joint.

Anybody wants pictures, I can take some this weekend.
