Throttle sticking, won't return
« on: June 12, 2015, 07:37:27 AM »
just purchased 85 K100..... new to Motobrick....When throttle is opened from idle, a hesitation, like a dead spot, then it catches up. Throttle sticks and won't return without twist pressure. Appreciate any and all help.
   Thanks....Coondog

Moondog,
Mine had a sticky throttle as well. But she had been sitting for 9 years! I disassembled the mechanism at the grip, cleaned it, greased it (lightly!) and it eventually worked itself back to normal operating mode (especially when we got out of the freezing temperatures up here in the North!). Give it a shot. Don't go too heavy on the lubricant. Whether or not you have sticking at the throttle bodies I don't know. I'd go with the grip first.

Good luck.

be sure to take the throttle tube off the bar and clean the handlebar really well, it is probably rusted.

look at the bottom of the throttle housing and see if you see a thumb wheel there. that would be be throttle friction. Loosen it to see if the throttle feels better.

eliminate the possibilities:
remove cable ends from twist grip and throttle body linkage.
check if throttle body moves freely and smoothly throughout its range and returns to closed position without drag or binding.
grab cable ends and see it it moves freely throughout its length of travel.
rotate twist grip, should move without binding or sticking.
gotta be one of those three options.
might just be built up crud/sludge from excessive lube by previous owner.
g'luck with your brick and welcome to the gang!
