I am close to finishing up my naked bike conversion, and one of the last things is to trouble shoot and deal with the ABS lights.

I have both lights flashing and did research how to reset, and read the codes etc, but I was hoping somebody could actually show me what this LED test light looks like, and describe how exactly it's made and how you use it to read the code.

FYI, the ABS does seem to work. I cannot lock the rear wheel (haven't tried the front). We also did a reset, but probably try it again to make sure, but looks like I will need to proceed with a code reader.

BTW, I also have the tail light all signal lights replaced with LED, and we have already addressed the hyper flash as well as shorting the wires to bypass the light bulb check relay. The battery is also brand new.

Below are the locations I found that are relevant to this, as well as a number of youtube videos.
Thanks in advance,

This link has the error codes and more info to figure out what's wrong.

I actually found a cheap code reader reset tool, but as usual it's in Europe (UK), but I rather make one since it's quicker and cheaper.

PS. here are a couple of pix showing what the bike looks like at the moment. (the number 75 is not yet on, I am not sure about that as of yet)

To build your own LED tester, all that's necessary is to use a current limiting resistor so the LED does not burn out. A simple explanation is at http://www.instructables.com/id/Choosing-The-Resistor-To-Use-With-LEDs/ and all parts should not cost more than $2. All you are doing is counting the number of pulses to get the error code, so this should be decently simple if you are familiar with electrical work. If not, find a friend who is able to give you a bit of assistance in the electrical/electronic area, you really don't want to damage the expensive engine control unit...

Also search "ABS" in this forum, and Google "LED" for more info on building your own cheap LED flash/test circuit... Hope this helps you a bit...

Edit: As the instructions at http://bmwk10075abs1fix.web.fc2.com/ state, ensure you use a high impedance (resistance value) for your LED tester so you don't overload the ECU, or you can use an analog or fast acting digital multimeter to get the same results (number of counts). Sorry if this sounds a bit obscure, have worked around electronics for many moons, and unfortunately have "let the magic smoke out" a few too many times...

I bought this: http://www.linrose.com/images/specs/2191L.jpg
Would it work as a test light?

Try typing  " k100abs@gmail.com" into google. It will lead you to Tosi Tabuki's homepage. That guy is a genius! Fixed my broken 1991 ABS unit in no time. Excellent service. Lots of knowledge on the homepage. :bmwsmile

Looks like it (12 volt version) will, just use some jumper clips and you are off to the races...

"Thomas DK 4000" gives you the build site you already have (Tosi Tabuki), and looks like the "go to" place for repair of these units, there is no one else that I know of...

The LED worked great. Checked the code, then reset the ECU and no more flashing light.  :mm
