1985 K100RS Center Stand Upgrade
« on: April 03, 2015, 03:22:45 PM »
I'm in the middle of a spline lube and pulled the end plugs off my center stands for an inspection.  The internals were definitely rusty.

On this and a few other forums I've seen a few posts about center stand failures on early K bikes that utilized the 'curved foot' center stands, due to internal rust.  Some have recommended utilizing the center stand from a later K bike that utilized the 'square foot' bases.

I've got a line on a couple K1200 center stands on ebay - has anyone done a similar swap using this model center stand?   Any mods required?

Mounting holes are in different positions and the bolts won't line up. An adapter plate might be possible but, for all the trouble you'd put yourself through, it would be easier to grab a used K1100 centre stand.  This is a bolt on swap for the K100 stand.

How about swapping the K1200 stand legs to the K100 mounting bracket - is that possible?

I just put an 1100 stand on my K75.  When I checked all the part numbers to see what would fit I found that none of the part numbers for the 1200 matched the earlier models.  At least with the 1100 the legs go on the same base as the 75 and the 100.

Maybe you can buy a 1200 stand and report back on how it works.

Attached is a photo of my K100 center stand.  If possible, would someone measure a K1200 stand at (A) - distance between bushing mounts and (B) - Overall height.  If the measurements are similar and it seems feasible, I may order a stand, but don't want to spend money on something that obviously won't work.

Be careful not to get duped with a k12 stand, the mount will fit, but the stand legs are too short.

Thanks for the research, Robert!

Looks like mixed results, depending on the length of the stand legs.  But it appears that the stand can be swapped between the brackets on the different models.   I'll take a risk on a cheap 1200 stand and report  back on my own results.
