Cut to get access for removal makes sense. I was focused on getting it out intact, assuming that the replacement part would need the same tool/technique for inserting it. But hand tight should be fine, especially with the several zip ties holding cables to the handle bar.

By the way, your photo documentary, on another site, that shows the tear down and re-build of a K75 is a great tutorial for someone like me trying to learn the hidden parts of the engine and bike without tearing into it first and causing all kinds of unexpected problems.
