92 K75s windscreen advice needed.
« on: March 03, 2015, 07:13:46 PM »
I'm back in the saddle after a lengthy hiatus from biking. I got a nice K75s [will post some pics when I get er cleaned up] The windscreen has a cracked corner which was repaired with neoprene and looks crappy. I'd like somethng taller and more protective anyway. I read the old post but am still unsure which way to go. Clearview looks nice, but I'm not sure they make one for the s. other contenders are Airflow and Parabellum. your 2 cents?

Had a Parabellum, not a good match for the S.  You need bar end mirrors and color match the apron.  And it looks dorky, mine pulled out the mounts at speed, bounced off my helmet and got run over by a semi. Replaced with an Aeroflow, looks much better, works better, does not interfere with mirrors.  Happy with it.

I'm 6'1", and the OEM windscreen puts the wind into my chest. I tried a tinted Aeroflow, and it seemed to channel the wind into the face of my helmet (pretty noisy). Someone slightly shorter might be fine with it as the air would hit the top of their helmet. This is my experience, your mileage may vary. Also, one day at a red light I pulled up behind a van that had these long windows in the back doors and I could see myself head-on. I saw that the tinted Aeroflow covered up a large portion of the front of my Hi-Viz yellow jacket. Not really what I wanted.

I went back to the OEM windscreen. If I ever go back to the Aeroflow, I'll use a clear one.

talked to the folks at Parabellum. they suggested the 20" [tall] @$279. BUT said the stock mirrors wouldn't work, I'd need bar ends., which don't work with my heated grips. my bike came with some nice chrome bar end/throttle lock. any other mirror options? Windshield options that work with stock mirrors

I have considered adding a Laminar Lip http://www.laminarlip.com/k75s.php to the top of the Aeroflow. I assume that it would attach okay. I don't know of anyone who ever added the Laminar Lip to an Aeroflow. That 'should' push all the air over your head. But you'll be in for a couple hundred dollars between the two pieces - unless you bide your time and find them used.

Or you could get a Laminar Lip and add it to the OEM. But I have no experience in doing this so I don't know how much it would help.

foundn these. Guftason. anyone know if they work with the stock mirrors. I also wonder if the 23" is too tall, and the 19" too wide?
called and was told no one has reported problems. I think the 23 will be too tall. so thinking 19

Maybe you could try measuring the width of your current OEM windscreen to see how it compares to the advertised models? You could also put the bike on the centerstand and turn the handlebars all the way to the stops in each direction and see how much clearance you have between each mirror and the edge of the windscreen. That might give you some idea of which windscreen you could install and how much clearance you would end up with.

Just my 2 cents.

ok, measured, and 12" is slightly less than the Guftassen 19".so I  ordered it.  I'll report when I get it.

Something to watch out for with larger-than-stock windshields on the K75S is the 2 bottom mount screws pulling out of the cowling because of wind pressure.  Happened to me, I replaced the stock screws and inserts with nylon license plate screw holders, had to enlarge the holes a little but they are much more robust and have held up for the last couple decades.

I can see using more robust screws. seems like I could use the inserts that are still in the cowling. did you take these out? if so, what did you replace them with? you used nylon screws? do you have a pic of this?
thanks
