does an '89 final drive unit fit an '85?

Hi guys,

just before winter storage time my K100RS's final drive started to make strange noise and it feels like something broke in there. Now I've been offered a whole unit at a reasonable price. Only thing is, mine is a 1985 RS and the "new" unit is from a 1989 LT. Am I going to encounter problems? Any other suggestions as to where to go from here?

Then you also must change the drive shaft, as the number of splines is different....16 (old) vs 20 (new).
The change was 02/86.

I got an offer for both a final drive and a drive shaft. With these I'll be ok? The drive shaft is bolt-on?

Could be a idea to first check what you now have, maybe the FD/driveshaft allready have been changed earlier.
The driveshaft is fixed with a snap ring in the front end, a sharp snatch to the rear would release it.
