what to save off an engine being scrapped?

Bike currently looks like that ^ .... Trying to decide if any of the engine internals have any value. Bikes an 85 but don't know if the engine is ... Just know the engine isn't original.

And when I part vehicles I don't hoard parts for myself, I only save parts that actually have demand....

Suggestions? I would pull the cams and give them to BSK if there wasn't a pond in the way. Out of country cores aren't financially reasonable.

Well, if it's a 4V engine(you may want to pull the valve cover to verify if you haven't already), there may be a market for the head. I had heard some time back that mini-cooper builders were wanting the 4v bmw k bike heads to put on their blocks.
Can't say if that still holds true today or not.

The head is worth something even on a 2-valve, so long as it has some life left in it. Check the valve shims, if they are more than say 2.3mm, the head is probably saleable.


The covers, both sides, are worth selling. Those get scuffed in crashes and tipovers.


Pull the hall senders off the front. Was it running? At the very least, you could sell them cheap As-is to someone.

Alternator drive cups, those get banged up when the monkey nuts turn to dust and need to be replaced.   Oil pan bottom with filter cover (drain plug gets stripped)
