HT leads looks buggered.
« on: September 20, 2014, 04:15:36 AM »
Being still new to the world of K's, I have had a few issues but the one that cheesed me of was the occassional running on two cylinders. It didnt matter if the bike was hot or cold, sometimes it would be fine other times it would run rough for about 5 mins then run fine almost like a switch had been pulled.

I knew the previous owner replaced the front coil (1-4) with  a new one as he had a similar problem in July. I decided to get a guaranteed 2nd hand one but also notice the lead 3 & 4 showed signs of arcing.

I don't know whether it was the leads or the coil which caused the bad running but now they've been replaced the bikes runs really good now and is a lot smoother.

OEM leads are renowned for
a - being crap and
b - being crap.

Apart from the fact they are a "parts bin" selection - just take a look at where the lead is wrapped round itself to make it fit in the lead trough ! Also take a look at the cracks that appear as a result.

Best illustration is to remove the cover and when dark [ 'ish ], start the bike and observe the lightning display !

One of the first items I developed for my Kays was in conjunction with RAM. Here's one set of 8mm Hi-Po lead sets - all fit perfectly. Many peeps over on the K11OG and Flying Brick forums using them. May other fine lead sets available of course.

I did wonder why they wrapped around each other and wasn't just made shorter, although I think #4 would have to be a 45degree plug as it would fail the head befor it was clipped on correctly.
Your coils are different I noticed.

Strangely a independent specialist said to me over the phone "it won't be the leads, they never fail". Hmm.

Are quality leads like Realm's available on this side of the Atlantic?

Anybody use the wires from Beemer Boneyard?

First off to clarify - I have NO commercial or financial connection with Realm Engineering [ RAM Power leads ]. I simply liaised with them to develop what I considered a superior lead set at a sensible price for my proects.

They ship worldwide, and occassionally group buys are arranged to reduce the carriage costs.

When I was developing and testing the leads - I got a great deal of feedback from guys on the K11OG and Flying Brick sites - and in return for that I secured a 10% discount for forum members [ as with the RAMSHOX I developed ]. Realm today confirmed they will extend that to any Kay specific forum / club / site.

The RAM leads were designed to fit EXACTLY and the caps were chosen specifically for a good fit.

The coils shown in the first pic are K1100 - different of course for K100 and K75 - EACH lead set was individually designed for fit and function.

Check them out on www.ramshox.com. and tell them TJ sent you so you get your discount.

Like I said - many other fine power lead products out there.

Ooops - fat fingers strike again. Simpler to say the RAM leads fit ALL brick motors ! VERY popular in Germany - one guy takes 100 sets at a time.

Ive been using them for a year with no problems. They're probably the same as the ones from euro motoelectric. Don't look as beefy as realms but they get the job done at a good value.

Well Tim, you can !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! info@ramshox.com. They ship all round the World with no problems and can accept card via their secure system. Also paypal [ I think ].

I had a meeting this weekend with boss Adrian [ AC ] and told him that any motobrick.com orders are to receive the 10% discount. That applies to RAMSHOX as well.

Those look to be the same ones that are sold on beemerboneyard.com...same price. For $60, they work.

Magnecor are a good product - I used them for a couple of years before I got involved with deleoping the RAM power leads.

Bear in mind - I'm a Kay freak - so the RAM leads were developed specifically around the Kay AND with loads of feedback from Kay owners around the World. Pricewise - last time I checked [ last year?] the prices were on par.

I tried some NGK branded wires and was not impressed. The fit on the plugs was fairly loose and would give me an intermittent miss on one cylinder. Glad I kept my originals around, but still have the NGKs for spares.
