86 K75C throttle tube sticky
« on: September 02, 2014, 02:05:08 PM »
I changed the C bars for K100RS bars with risers. now the throttle doesn't snap back. I went this route as my C bars were bent and I had the RS bars around. Knowing the bars were shorter in length I figured that with the risers the switchgear (and subsequently the cables) would end up in roughly the same distance on the handlebars. Umm...maybe not?
I suspect the stickiness is because the RS bars (even with  the risers) don't put the switchgear in the same position as before and something is 'binding' or compressed. The position of the RS bars put the switchgear closer to the centre on the handlebar hence the original C cables are not extended out closer to the end of the bar.
I was just recently in the engine area to replace FPR, fuel lines, crank vent hose, air filter and had all those components out of the bike. Upon reinstallation maybe..... that throttle cable got misaligned? I checked and all appears normal there so I'm inclined to think that's ok.
Having said all that, my other thought is when I was sliding on the switchgear to RS bars they were crazy hard to put on. Maybe because the C bars are chrome and very smooth and the RS are painted black? The RS bars are BMW OEM (22mm, though I didn't confirm with a vernier caliper). The switchgear is very close now to the bend in the handlebar where as with the original C bars they were down the bar a bit. Would these be a factor? The choke cable on the other side appears to operate fine. The throttle response was flawless before.
Any thoughts? Beuller? Beuller?
