Broken Speedo
« on: August 21, 2014, 01:35:24 PM »
Hi everyone,
hope I can find some help here as I have a problem ( one in a long line of electrical probs and gremlins) I went out on the bike after yet another repair to check things out and the speedo died them flickered a bit and is now dead as doornail, not even the odometer works. I have checked the sensor on the back wheel ( it was clean, oil changed less than 2 weeks ago) checked the wiring and all seems fine ( should be I have rebuilt the loom) . So the question is is the speedo dead, can it be fixed, and if so  where can I get the bits, if needed, or do I replace, and if I have to, would an after market new one work and where could I get one that would work on this bike, any ideas or advise welcome
thanks in advance

There is a gentlemen in Austin Texas that repairs.  You can search the site.

Have you checked the plugs on the back of the clocks?

If that looks/feels good the easiest test would be to 'borrow' a known working unit and bung it on, or put yours on a known working system...

If you're close to me (unlikely but hey) I'll have a look for you.

(edit -- if your profile location map is correct bring it up one day for a cup of tea and a tinker.)

((edit edit -- that offer extends to anyone on here, just let me know you're turning up :2thumbup: ))

Hi PDG,
yes the map is accurate so yes I could come on up, that would be great and thanks for the offer, (pm me with your address) as for checking the pins yes done that and continuity checked the relevant wires in the loom and I seem to have power in the right places I just wonder if all the other work I have done to the loom has caused this ( I also put hid headlight in) and the box of tricks is behind the speedo I do wonder if there is interference from this, there shouldn't be but, you never know, plus I had to splice in bits of another loom to repair the butchery that was done by some idiot ( I had no cooling fan.... no loom or control box for the fan) and do a clean up and "refresh" on the rest of it

HID modulator/ballast should be far enough out of range as to not affect anything, but never know...

First Use Karamba to test the speedo to verify your diagnosis before forking out for a repair.
