Brake pads

In the Clymer K75 and K100 manual it states that "it is not necessary to remove the caliper assembly in order to replace the brake pads." Is this the best way to replace the pads or is it easier to remove the caliper assembly off the brake disk? All of my other bikes I have always worked with the caliper removed off the disk. Perhaps I'm not understanding what the manual is saying? Thanks. Ken In Katy TX.

It's entirely possible to replace pads without removing the caliper - pop off the plastic cover (if it's still there), slide the pins out, take out old pads, reassembly is the reverse of removal....

The pins can be a little awkward to get out with the wheel in the way, but having the caliper mounted means you have something to work against to get them out and back in again.

The only advantage I can see to removing the calipers is the opportunity to give them more of a clean.

There might be a way to rotate the caliper with one bolt to get pads out....either or whatever way works.  I take both bolts out, wiggle/push the caliper to and fro to push the pistons in to gain some space, then swap pads.

no need to take off the caliper.  actually easier to leave it on since it will stay put as you work on it.  I use small vice grips to pull out the pins, wiggle the old pads and they will slip out the top.

+1.....use the short end of a crowbar and place it diagonally between the metal plates on the pads.
Press the pads apart (and the pistons back into the calipper) then they are easy to remove.
