Side case latches (or a key, maybe)
« on: July 20, 2014, 09:48:59 PM »
My K75C's Integral cases (with the flat latches) didn't come with keys. One side case is keyed differently than the other according to the 3 digit code on the side of the latches.

The dealer was able to order me a pair of new keys for one side case but not the other. The keys for that code have been discontinued.

I've been trolling the internet for a while for the keys for the one side but to no avail. I've googled and called a few other dealers that indicate it's still available in their catalogs online but to no avail. It doesn't seem that anyone has them sitting on their shelves anymore. I've saved an ebay search but haven't found anything that way either.

Do any of you guys either have a 042 key, or a set of latches with keys, or a set of latches that might still have keys available? I'm considering getting a beatup case from ebay if the seller can give me the code and I can see if the dealer can get the keys.

Thanks guys

BTW: for the hell of it I tried the key that I have in the other side, hoping the cut was close enough...not close enough it seems

The keys would have the "042" on them

Two possibilities to solve your search.

1) contact Larry "Stoner" Stonestreet of Stoner's Beemer Stash, Airhead Parts and Accessories
Larry Stonestreet
39628 Avenida Miguel Oeste

CA.STONER@YAHOO.COM

I emailed him to find out if he had a 049 for me and he did.  You might luck out.

Also try James Sherlock

OR

2) get a local locksmith to manufacture a key.  That's what I did. I dropped off my bags, a copy of a 046 tragkorb key that I had and pictured of the 049 key I desired. One day later, the locksmith called to say my three keys were finished. Cost me $10 per key which I though was OK given the work he put into the milling and grinding.

He used an Ilco 01122C blank and milled the new key based on the info I provided him as well as the lock.  He said that having the lock was better than having the 046 key although that helped to speed the process of shaping the tooth profile.  What's important with these keys is the groove sizing and positioning, not the tooth profile.  All keys have the same tooth profile in this series.

I've tested the keys and they work.
