92 K75RT want to add a Centech fuseblock...
« on: July 07, 2014, 07:43:17 PM »
Anyone have any experience of adding a Centech fuseblock to a K75RT ? I'm trying to find a weatherproof location that is readily accessible- I've removed the ABS brain from the tail storage pod but use that for tool storage etc. and would prefer not to use it. Also need a decent hook up point (ignition on) to connect a relay to power the fuseblock.
Cheers,
          Ian.

Why go to that expense?  Use a simple 4-fuse block and mount it to the side of the relay box.  Four additional fuses are more than plenty for a K75; you've only got a 33A alternator.

I mounted mine on the opposite side where the starter relay lives.  It's simple to add a switching relay in the relay box itself,  Grab +12V from the starter relay and switched control signal from the parking light wire inside the relay box.

Remember, you fuse for the wire size, not the load.  That's why you can overcommit the total sum of fuses to the supply.

I got the Centech unit for free and am going to use it to power my LED auxiliary lights, heated gear supply and CD player so it won't be overloading the system- I was trying to tidy up the wiring and do away with all the extras coming directly from the battery terminals and going through inline fuse holders.

Well, if it's for free, that's different.

There is no really good place for a unit of that size given the constraints you've outlined.  The tail is the best place -- protected, accessible and convenient for getting switched +12V from the tail light assembly.  If you try to locate it in the tool tray, you'll not be able to remove the tray to get access to the ECU and battery.  There's no room in the relay box and that is inconvenient to boot.  Either side of the relay box is not large enough to accept the Centec.  There's no place under the tank large enough either.

Maybe one of the pockets of the fairing, but you'll run into the same problem as with the tool tray come the day you need to remove the fairing.

I think I'm going to mount it in the tail storage pod, seems like the best option.
Thanks for your input,
