Suddenly wont run.
« on: July 06, 2014, 12:50:43 AM »
Today was my 400 mile ride in an attempt to free up my sprag clutch. about mile 80 running around 5k rpms the bike just died. no stumble or hesitation temp looked good. tinkering on the side of the road  ignition on no noise from the fuel pump fuel gauge not moving but its been flakey anyway. pressing starter nothing. Pulled tank spent an hour cleaning every electrical connection I could find. anything I should check would the fuel pump going cause it to just cut out or would it stumble and miss then loose power? Suddenly i'm thinking a failed side stand switch.

am I on the right track any questions I'm not asking open to any and all thoughts on this.

If the mods deleted all the questions relating to dumbass crap I've done or not done during my motobrickng career, half my posts would be gone...conservative estimate.

I look at it this way.....together with many others, I learned to try the side stand up and down if this happens to me...Good thread as I see it

It is said that there are no stupid questions. If this is false I'd rather not be the example ...

There's no sidestand switch on k75 -- they have that funky clutch-activated sidestand retraction mechanism.

And here's my dumbass DIY -- BNLM (But Not Like Me) sidestand lesson for the day -- when you put on your K75 centerstand make sure the little rod connecting the sidestand retraction swingarm at the clutch end to the sidestand is facing in the right direction -- I.e. Pointing rearward -- otherwise you'll get to take the centerstand off again and fix it. Which means either jack the bike up or take off the centerstand springs. If there's a way to reposition that connecting rod without taking the CC assembly off, please share--I couldn't figure it out.  And if there's a way to get the centerstand assembly back on without jacking it up or unhooking the springs I'd like to know that too.

Too late for me but make it will save someone else a complete waste of an hour and some self esteem.

I got tired of messing with mine and just removed it permanently. I just need to think twice after gas stops to make sure the sidestand is up.

The real kicker was I had messed with the sidestand on the side of the road just hadn't kicked it out then closed again. I may get the BMW bypass they sell to keep in my saddlebags.

Or you could buy an old switch from someone and just cut off the switch and short the wires together. Same as what you get from BMW for the test plug......
