Anyone use K&N oil filter?
« on: May 30, 2014, 12:57:15 AM »
Part Number KN 163 apperently is for the K100 but I seems to me like it might not fit to to the tight clearance the the oil filter cover. The nut makes the overall length longer. Does anyone use these? They seem like they would be nice to have that nut on there instead of having a specific oil filter socket.
If you're not first, you're last.

According to K&N that filter is 90mm high. http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?prod=kn-163

I just measured a Mahle OC-91 and it's 80mm high.

I actually just installed one of these after my recent upgrades. The filter fits just fine.
Hit the throttle and live.
Don't blink.
Don't slow.
Just breathe.

In my neck of the woods, the retailers have the K&N filter at about the same price as a stock filter from the dealer. Last time I checked, the price difference was about two bucks. If I remember correctly, the K&N filter is nothing more than a Hi-Flo product with a nut welded on the bottom. Or so I have been told.

I friend of mine picked up a true Mahle for $13. Three dollars less than the K&N.
