I promised my mum that I wouldn't ride while she was alive. She passed two years ago and so I've been riding for two years now. I had had a bandit Yamaha XS1100 Midnight Special when I lived in Hawaii back in 1995-1996 (loved it). After MSF classes and the M on my license, I picked up a Honda XR650L. Lived the bike but 1) I am to big and heavy 2) I like riding far and fast (instead of on fire roads) and 3) she was a lemon from the start. I got her with a burnt out bike with a broken oil pump. Two rebuilds later I bought an 18 year old big purple Prince touring bike off of CL for a song from a retired Navy guy in DC and I have been blissed out ever since, especially since meeting Khanh Nguyen of EUBMW, who has reassured me that my new to me bike, with 73k (now 77k) miles is still just a baby, will easily reach 600k if I do my part, and would happily ride from DC to Portland and back just as a lark, no worries at all. She's fat and torqy and I never feel ill equipped in any road situation.
I want riding lights/fog lamps and drop bars (one mechanic not Khahn) has dropped it, I have been backed into, and I have tipped over twice (same thing happened: saw a sweet parking spot, turned right too quickly at nearly a stop, and just feel over going close to zero miles per hour, sigh) -- so, my lower fairing is pretty crunchy. I currently live in an apartment building with outdoor parking so I'll hold of on the restore until I get a converted garage (and stop tipping over!). Anyway, so happy to be here.
I have a 2001 BMW 530i e39 that I have not driven at all since I bought that XRL two or so years ago. Battery's dead and the tiors are flattened. Oh well.
Oh, just bought new rubber: Avon RoadRider tiors.
