Flashers Wont Cancel
« on: May 14, 2014, 11:01:18 PM »
Yup-thats it.  My flashers just won't cancel.  I was JRA and mid-ride the cancel wouldn't work.  My first instinct is to get in and clean out the starter motor.  Anything I should look at before that?

Thanks!

Turn signal, both sides.

I can go activate both individually, but the cancel toggle has no affect.

Do the flashers cancel on their own after traveling so far?

Check the harness connector that's under the tank, clean the contacts, then if that doesn't work, I'd try and clean the contacts of the cancel button..............if you take the switch apart, just be careful of the little pieces that like to fly away......

If they don't cancel at all, it may be the flasher relay in the relay box under the tank.

Check the harness connector that's under the tank,

While you're down there.....and to narrow it down a bit..........
Parallell to the multiconnector for the switch assy it's a single connector (brown/white wire).........
Yes, it's for the cancel switch............while the flashers is on, short this wire to ground using another
piece of wire.

If the flasher stops, the problem is most likely in the switch, but could also be in the single connector
or the wiring between.
If the flasher don't stop, the problem is most likely in the relay, but could also be in the relay socket or
the wiring between the socket and the single connector.

Alright-Thanks for all the starting points guys.  I finally was able to get in and tackle the problem and it was prettty simple-

Broken wire.

The cluster of wires coming from the starter switch had been getting pinched by the steering lock and  the brown/white broke clean through.  A quick solder job and re-routing did the trick.

Who would'a thunk!
