tires?? sizes and differences
« on: May 11, 2014, 12:06:41 PM »
I'm looking at get new tires, I was thinking the Spitfires. My question is, what happens when you change the profile from say the stock front 100/90/18 to say a 110/80/18, I know what the numbers mean with the size but does the wider tread and lower profile this give you more lean angle in a turn or something?? Also, how come the manuals say not to use radial tires on the K 75??? Anyone on this please.

You marginally increase the contact patch and it might effect the speedometer accuracy (or lack there of)  A number of people on the forum run radials with no adverse effects.  most like the improved grip and ride..  As for going up a size, a 110 on the front and a 140 on the rear is pretty common. If you have the 3 spoke 3" wheel the Avon Azaro 140/80R17 fits nicely.   A 110 radial will fit up front no problem.

I have the Y wheels but I know the 110/80/18 fits, s?o if the radials ore OK then I guess it's time to start asking which ones guys? I:m going to be doing a lot of touring but want to get aggressive, it holds turns pretty well with the stock Metzler tires now.

I've got a Lasertech on the front and a ME88 on the Rear.  Not very fond of the Me88.  Avon Azaro AV46 (i think) 140/80r17 Rear   Avon Storm 110 on the front.  Or a Bridgestone for the front.  All the other radials in a 130 or 140-18 I've found are dual sport.

I've got Bridgestone BT023 Battlax radials on my 95 K1100LT, 110/80ZR18 & 150/70ZR17  :yow

The rear was a tight fit but went on without problems, and the ride is amazing!

I had a Azaro 140 on the rear but changed it for the Battlax, the Avon was good with the front battlax, but the matched pair is much better  :2thumbup:
