1994 K 75 stock shock mounting question

My Clymer manual shows the shock mounted with the spring adjustment up by the seat, seems upside down, all the pictures I've seen look this way as well. Does it go this way? Adjustment ring by seat, does it really matter?

Doesn't matter much on the stock shock.  doesn't seem affect the life of the shock or how it works.  I upgraded to a YSS and was advised to put the adjusting ring on the bottom.

It depends on the shock.

I know the least expensive Progressive shock can be improperly mounted upside down.

From the Progressive 412 Series BMW K Bike Single Shock Installation sheet:

" 2. Install the Progressive Suspension "K" Bike shock (shock shaft facing up) with a supplied washer on each side of the bushings on both the top and lower mounts."
