Haven't found one yet
« on: May 08, 2014, 08:13:38 AM »
Hello, I have searched the forum and vendors on "windscreen" and "windshield" in hopes of finding a screen for my 1987 K75c....So far, close, but no cigar......I had one in my sights, and one vendor said it fit the K75, while another said it did not fit the K75c....I prefer a windshield that I can attach by clamping to handlebars as opposed to putting holes in the plastic and using screws...

My primary goal is to find a shield that blocks air to chest and head.....I don't care about looks or if it slows the bike down a little....

I have the closer-to-rider T type handlebars....

Thanks for any specific suggestions you may have..

Well, if you're not sick of hearing me rave about the Parabellum Scout, I'll do it again:

http://parabellum.com/Scout-Fairing-for-most-bare-BMWs-P1.aspx

Gives you a lot more options wrt to windshield height and seating position should you ever decide to switch to RT-height bars to sit up straighter. Should work as long as you have the round headlight. I have the 18" windscreen and the air flows pretty much over the top of my helmet.

Call Parabellum to find out details if you haven't talked to them yet -- nice folks.

Thank you for testimonial about Parabellum windshield....I will contact the vendor and see what they say....One thing I am wondering about is my current setup (see my avatar photo)
.  I have the round headlight and not much of a blue piece on the top of it....I do have the RT handlebars installed presently.....(the avatar photo does  not show them.)

I have heard many good things about the parabellum...

I found two others that fit....National cycle deflector and National cycle Plexi-something 2.
I'll decide soon ....

One thing I did not say is that I do not want a large, full fairing like touring bikes have...too hot in summer..

I've got one of those I got from Craigslist in my garage. Needs a new windshield, but I've been considering putting it on. Probably would want to paint it first, it's super purple, and my bike is red. :P

The National Cycle shield works pretty well too. With the lower C bars, should be better: the mounting point will still be the same. I'm 5'11" (32 inch inseam, if you have long legs, that's equivalent to a bit taller) and have the standard RT bars. It blocks the blast well. Get a little of the stream at the top of my head, but it's nice for helmet ventilation. If I tuck down a bit, gets really quiet.

WMAX, thanks for comments..please tell me which NatCycle model you have that works pretty good:  I know of the Deflector and then there is the  Plexi-something 2......

I talked with  the rep at Parabellum...she said they make no windshield for the K75c, just the 75s an 75 touring that came along later..........I sent her a photo of my bike (same as my avatar photo) and asked her to take a look and let me know for sure if she can tell one way or another.....
Ain't gonna order anything until I feel certain it will fit...

Many thanks to all,

The bike in the avatar photo isn't a K75C......but a (US only) K75T.
Unless some PO have thrown away the small fairing, and put on a K100 headlamp surrounding.

K75C.

K75T.

Talk to Charlie at Parabellum -- I've talked to a woman there who was very nice and helpful but she gave me info that was incomplete -- Charlie is the guy who can tell you for sure whether they have a fairing that will fit your bike.

It's a deflector, at least I'm pretty sure. Have had it for a couple years. I posted about it on the library windshield thread.

This would be another option. You don't have the "C" fairing. This would fit right on.

I have a Sport on one K75 and a Scout on the other. The Sport is too low for me so make sure you get the right height. The Scout is much better looking and the windscreen is replaceable since the fairing section is fiberglass and painted to match your brick.

If I had the choice and the $$ I'd go with the Scout. I've had to replace the windscreen a couple times over the past 15 years due to cracks (user error not product defect). If you crack the Sport it's done for and you buy a new one.

So far so good...still no decision....It is a tossup whether the fairing in my avatar is from a standard K100 or from a K75T...both look the same to me.....(The guy I bought it from said the original fairing and windshield were ruined by a spill....Bike is a salvage unit.......)....so the fairing that is on it is not the original one...I will call parabellum back....My intuition tells me that the one they say fits most BMWs might work...
I'll ask them to take another look at my avatar photo...

Stay tuned and thanks

Thank you Inge.....I just now wrote a note to Parabellum and sent the photo of my bike again, as well as the black one in this thread that is labeled K75T......I explained that my bike has a salvage title and the original fairing ad windshield have been removed and replaced with a different fairing....So I hope they write back.  If they say no dice, then I'll probably order the national cycle universal "deflector" model with the quick on and off feature....btw National cycle only sells a windshield for the BMW 75RT and for no other K75

The batwing fairing someone suggested looks great but they don't make them for BMWs....(Also I am not handy enough to make one fit by fabricating attachment hardware).

I imagine by tomorrow I'll have something on order..

Hi here in the UK we have a company called "Skid Marx" unfortunate name but they make aftermarket screens for just about anything and to any size/ width and colour required. I have used them before for a Honda PC800 and just this week I fitted a new higher screen to my K75S. The screen is well made and fits exactly to the fairing, it is slightly higher and wider than a standard screen but is shaped so the mirror stems do not make contact from lock to lock when turning the handle bars. The price was just £64 and they ship to the USA. If you do not get something to your requirements send them an email with photos they will am sure sort you something nice. :euro
Don't wait now is the time, enjoy.
