First BMW - 1988 K75s
« on: April 19, 2014, 08:45:37 PM »
Hi All, I just purchased a 1988 K75s with 99K miles on her. Came with the factory side bags and top case and is red (nice color too!). She's missing the belly pan fairing and has duct tape for a seat cover but otherwise she's real pretty indeed. The sale came with $300 of parts, a new fuel return line & clamps, starter brush plate/brushes, starter relay, spark plugs, BMW charger, Bridgestone BT-045 front and rear and a new Haynes manual too. Previous owner was a bit intimidated by getting at the fuel hose I think. Anyway, I'll be changing all the fluids & filters, checking/adjusting everything and generally going over the entire bike cleaning and sorting everything. Will rebuild the starter too while I'm at it. I'm told these bikes can often get up to 250K miles before any top-end work is needed. The other bikes in the livery are a '98 Honda VTR1000F Superhawk, '02 Yamaha FZ1 and an '04 Harley Sportster 1200. I paid the nice man $550 US for the Beemer. I'm pretty happy about it too!

Yea that is dirt cheap.  Now days they all for $2500 to $5000 which to me is crazy as old and parts are expensive.  And you just know few greased the splines.

Nice find. I disagree on the expensive parts. I happily buy most any parts I can right from Max's, I think it's totally amazing that you can get brand new factory parts for something that was designed and started production in the early 80's. Chances are they will keep making the stuff too if they keep selling it. Major bits I get from the usual online sources but all the running stuff and some spiffy up stuff from the dealer.

YMMV, C

Great buy!  Hope you didn't have a gun to the sellers head for that price.

Update: So I was surfin' craigslist seattle and found a windscreen (with the BMW emblem still attached!), a seat and the lower belly pan engine fairing all in Makarta Red and all in great shape, including the seat! It's a 2 hour ferry ride & drive but for $98 US it was well worth it I think. I was able to get all the supporting/attaching hardware for the engine fairing too. I've stripped everything down, traced all the electricals, cleaned the crap out of all, drained al the fluids and read many, many posts on this forum and also via the Great Google. Fresh greases & fluids are ready, starter's been rebuilt and will start putting all back together, inspecting, checking torques and adjusting all as I go. Great forum here guys (and gals), thanks for all the info available!
