Thoughts on running a patched tire.

I've seen this posted elsewhere but never have had a definite answer.  Got a screw in my brand new ME880, literally 100 miles on it.  Thinking of taking it to a shop to get it patched from the inside and riding as normal.  Anyone done this?  Ticked off of the thought of buying another new tire over a damn screw  >:(

i've done it, but i did it myself.  you might have a problem finding a shop willing to do it in these litigious times.

I'd do it.  I had three (yes, THREE :'()flats on my K1100LT last year. One I got patched (small town auto shop in MT) which held until my next flat (different spot on the tire.)  Two of those times the tire went completely flat at speed fully loaded and it wasn't that big of a deal (like a blowout would be) so I think a patch would hold but even if it didn't I'm not too worried about it.

That's for the rear only.  I might think twice about patching a front even though I've had a front for flat at 50 mph and didn't go down.  I had that front patched in The Yukon once but that's because the nearest tire was in Fairbanks.

I've done both patch and plugs. But like duck, only the rear.
I've done 4300 miles this year on a plug. Like u, got a nail at 2weeks on a brand new tire.

Took a front to my tire guy, pretty new tire, and asked him if was safe. He said watch how I do it. Plug pulled thru with a patch attached to it? He said that patch isn't going anywhere. He's an ATV, motorcycle guy and  I wore it out like that. 8)

if it were me... i would get the plug patch deal like mystic red...

at the same time i would install a metal valve stem...

then i would put a bottle o ride-on in that moe... 10% off code at checkout is "legacy"...

then i would screw on the tiregard...

I gots the Barak Obama never-go-flat (like the economy has) presidential limo tires on my bike.

Went to 4 different places today, everyone balked at patching it for me.  Too much of a liability.  

Bought a new tire in the meantime and figure out what to do with the other tire later.  Its way too beautiful in the East right now not to be riding.

Yea I had a similar situation a couple of years ago. The tire shop would patch the tire but they wouldn't dismount/mount the tire from a cycle rim.
The independant cycle shop would dismount/mount the tire but they wouldn't patch it.
So had the cycle shop do the mounting and the tire shop do the patch. A little bit of running around but saved me about $150 for a new tire, and was able to run that tire for about a 1-1/2 years.
